The role of Member Service Representative under the guidance of the Branch Manager is pivotal for developing new business and promoting Ascend’s financial services to both new and existing members. Key to this role is creating a positive member experience by delivering courteous and high-quality service in every interaction. This position demands uncovering individual member needs across various financial products such as certificates, IRAs, Coverdell accounts, and HSAs, alongside managing consumer loan applications and handling miscellaneous account services.

A Member Service Representative at Ascend serves multiple functions, including teller and receptionist duties when needed, ensuring the branch operates smoothly while building strong member relationships. This role involves direct member engagement, from analyzing financial needs and advising on suitable products to maintaining account accuracy and assisting with automated services orientation. The individual also plays an essential part in supporting organizational goals by meeting specific targets related to deposits, loans, debt protections, and other service-based requirements.

The Member Service Representative is responsible for comprehensive loan servicing including interviewing loan applicants, explaining lending options, preparing documentation, and ensuring timely loan disbursements. They must also maintain strong communication with underwriting departments and provide follow-up services, particularly concerning Home Equity Lines of Credit. High standards of quality control are expected, including the accuracy of financial transactions, timely error resolution, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory compliance.

Additional responsibilities include teller services like cash handling, balancing branch cash systems, and ensuring operational security. This role demands attention to detail, professional communication, a service-oriented mindset, and competence in using various technological tools and software relevant to credit union operations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year customer service experience
  • Ability to communicate professionally with members and staff
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Accuracy in handle of cash and transactions
  • Knowledge of credit union products and services
  • Ability to complete CUNA Financial Certification Program (FICEP) exam and obtain Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor designation
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and related software
  • Ability to operate financial and office equipment
  • Regular and reliable attendance required

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide consistent, courteous and personal service to members
  • Communicate with all members, employees and staff in a friendly, professional manner
  • Analyze member needs, match products and services to maximize member relationships
  • Open consumer accounts such as certificates, IRAs, Coverdell and HSAs
  • Demonstrate use of automated services including ITM orientation and troubleshooting, Online Banking, Bill Pay and ATM assistance
  • Process transactions including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments and cashier's checks
  • Interview consumer loan applicants, explain loan options, prepare necessary documents, and facilitate loan disbursement
  • Perform teller duties including balancing cash drawer and handling cash transactions
  • Maintain accuracy and adherence to credit union policies and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with new business development and referrals
  • Make outbound calls and provide notary/signature guarantee services
  • Recognize and refer mortgage leads to the mortgage department
  • Conduct quality control audits and resolve errors timely
  • Rent safe deposit boxes and manage access
  • Complete Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor program and provide financial counseling as needed
