This particular role is for a Workers Compensation Claims Specialist within Liberty Mutual's West Region. The role involves working within a dedicated claims team that leverages the latest technology to manage claims typically ranging from moderately complex to complex cases. The specialist will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing claims while working within assigned authority limits. Key responsibilities include making decisions on liability and compensability, evaluating damages, negotiating settlements, and managing commercial property and casualty claims involving bodily injury or property loss. Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in workers' compensation claims handling lost time and litigated claims
- Direct claims handling experience from investigation through resolution is required
- Reside within 50 miles of Lake Oswego, OR or Chandler, AZ
- Willingness to work onsite twice a month
- Eligibility for 100% remote work considered for candidates in CA and WA
- Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses
Job Qualifications
- BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training
- Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses
- Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU)
- Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology and legal aspects of claims
Job Duties
- Plans and conducts investigations of claims including interviewing insureds, witnesses and claimants, collecting and evaluating documentation and securing evidence to analyze coverage and determine liability, compensability, and damages
- Determines need for and engages independent adjusters, cause and origin experts and independent medical examiners
- Refers claims to subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate
- Assesses policy coverage for claims and notifies insured of any issues
- determines and establishes reserve requirements and adjusts reserves during claim processing
- Assesses damages associated with claims and conducts negotiations within assigned authority limits to settle claims
- Coordinates litigation activities to ensure timely and cost-effective resolution
- attends trials as company representative
- Acts as senior technical professional, assisting team members with escalated issues
- Mentors and trains new team members
- Participates in Quality Review process
- Participates in Suit Committees, Roundtables, Arbitrations, Mediations, field investigations and may assist in closed file reviews
- Performs other duties as assigned
