Job Description

Progressive is a leading insurance company dedicated to providing comprehensive coverage and outstanding service to its customers. With a strong commitment to innovation and a supportive work culture, Progressive has built a reputation as a top workplace recognized for its focus on innovation, purpose, values, work-life flexibility, compensation, benefits, and leadership. The company is well-known for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where employees can thrive and grow in their careers. Progressive offers career development opportunities, tuition assistance, and a wide range of benefits that support employees both personally and professionally. As an equal opportunity employer, Progressive values diversity and prohibits discrimination to ensure all employees feel welcome and valued.

The role of a claims specialist at Progressive is a vital position that involves managing large-loss injury claims valued over $60,000. In this hybrid role, specialists investigate complex and high-risk claims, including those with litigation features. The claims specialist consults with various parties involved in accidents such as police officers, medical professionals, and claimants to gather necessary information. This information is essential in determining coverage, liability, and the total value of each claim. The specialist will work primarily remotely but is expected to attend the office roughly four days per month for meetings, training, and team collaboration. Those who prefer an office environment are welcome to work on-site more frequently.

The position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to build rapport quickly to facilitate successful settlements. Negotiation and customer service skills are critical, as is the ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently. Familiarity with civil procedure rules regarding filing, discovery, and venue is necessary, and claims specialists will direct the use of discovery tools such as interrogatories, depositions, and document production. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in casualty and litigation claims handling, enabling them to manage high-value claims competently and independently.

Compensation for this role is competitive and varies based on location and experience. For example, salaries range from $88,000 to $115,000 annually in Anchorage, Alaska, and $81,000 to $105,000 annually in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to base pay, employees are eligible for a gainshare annual cash incentive payment of up to 24% of eligible earnings based on company performance.

Progressive offers an array of benefits to support employee well-being, including 401(k) retirement plans with a dollar-for-dollar company match up to 6%, medical, dental, and vision insurance with free preventative care, wellness and mental health programs, healthcare flexible spending and health savings accounts, life insurance, paid time off including volunteer time, paid and unpaid sick leave, short and long-term disability, parental and family leave, military leave and pay, and a diverse, inclusive culture supported by Employee Resource Groups. This comprehensive benefits package complements Progressive's commitment to employee satisfaction and development, making it an attractive workplace for claims specialists seeking to advance their careers while maintaining work-life balance.
