The role of claims specialist at Progressive is critical to the company’s operations, particularly in managing large-loss injury claims valued over $60k. As a claims specialist, you will be responsible for investigating complex claims that may involve litigation elements. This requires interaction with police officers, medical professionals, claimants, and other parties involved in accidents to gather detailed information. Your ability to analyze coverage, determine liability, and assess the total value of claims will be essential to the company’s success in resolving cases efficiently and fairly.

This position offers a hybrid work environment, balancing the need for in-person collaboration with remote work flexibility. Employees in this role will be required to attend the office approximately four days per month for important meetings, training, and teamwork. There is also flexibility for those who prefer working in the office more frequently. The compensation for this role is competitive and varies based on location and experience, with ranges from $81,000 to $115,000 annually in locations such as Anchorage, AK, and Honolulu, HI. Additionally, eligible employees can benefit from a gainshare annual cash incentive payment that can reach up to 24% of earnings based on company performance.

Job Requirements

  • Six years of relevant work experience with three years in claims handling or three years in claims handling and a bachelor's degree or five years of relevant work experience with three years in claims handling and an associate degree
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment reporting to office about four days per month
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship
  • Willingness to attend meetings, training, and collaboration in office
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with various parties involved in claims
  • Understanding of legal and procedural aspects of claims handling

Job Qualifications

  • Three years in claims handling
  • Six years of relevant work experience with at least three years in claims handling or three years in claims handling with a bachelor’s degree or five years relevant experience with associate degree
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and effect settlements
  • Strong negotiation and customer service skills
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of civil procedures including filing, answering suit, discovery deadlines, and venue
  • Ability to use discovery tools such as interrogatories, depositions, and document production
  • Three years of casualty and litigation claims handling experience

Job Duties

  • Investigate complex and high-risk large-loss injury claims valued over $60k
  • Consult with police officers, medical professionals, claimants, and other involved parties to gather information
  • Determine coverage, liability, and total claim value based on collected data
  • Manage claims with litigation features and direct use of discovery tools such as interrogatories, depositions, and document production
  • Build rapport quickly with claimants and successfully negotiate settlements
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently and handle multiple claims simultaneously while maintaining excellent organizational skills
  • Collaborate with team members during in-office meetings, trainings, and coaching sessions
