The Claims Specialist role at Liberty Mutual is an exciting opportunity to join a reputable insurance company where you will work within a Claims Team using advanced technology to manage claims from start to finish. This position involves handling a variety of routine to moderately complex claims, requiring thorough investigation, evaluation, and resolution. You will be responsible for determining liability and compensability, assessing losses, and negotiating settlements with claimants, policyholders, attorneys, appraisers, and other involved parties. The role offers dedicated training designed to enhance your skills in providing exceptional customer service and effective claims management.
This position supports a hybrid work environment where you have the flexibility to work remotely for focused tasks while collaborating in person twice a month if you live within 50 miles of one of the company’s specified offices such as Boston, Westborough, Hoffman Estates, and others. The Claims Specialist role is pivotal in ensuring claims are processed accurately and efficiently, contributing to the overall success of the company’s claims operations. Job Requirements
- BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training
- Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses
- Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology and legal aspects of claims
Job Qualifications

- Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU)
- Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology and legal aspects of claims
Job Duties
- Manages an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability/liability
- Establishes action plan based on case facts, best practices, protocols, regulatory issues and available resources
- Plans and conduct investigations of claims to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages
- Assesses policy coverage for submitted claims and notifies the insured of any issues
- determines and establishes reserve requirements, adjusting reserves, as necessary, during the processing of the claim, refers claims to the subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate
- Assesses actual damages associated with claims and conducts negotiations, within assigned authority limits, to settle claims
- Performs other duties as assigned
