The Claims Specialist role at Liberty Mutual is a vital position within the Claims Team, responsible for managing a caseload of routine to moderately complex insurance claims. Leveraging the latest technology, the specialist handles all aspects of claim management from the initial investigation to resolution, ensuring that claims are evaluated accurately and settled fairly. This role requires interaction with various stakeholders including claimants, policyholders, appraisers, attorneys, and third-party vendors, facilitating clear communication and effective resolution strategies. The Claims Specialist will assess liability and compensability, evaluate damages, negotiate settlements within authorized limits, and refer matters to subrogation or special investigation teams as necessary. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 1-year claims handling experience
- proven interpersonal, analytical and negotiation abilities
- ability to communicate clearly and build relationships
- knowledge of legal liability, insurance coverage and medical terminology preferred
- licensing may be required in some states

Job Duties
- Manages an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability/liability
- establishes action plan based on case facts, best practices, protocols, regulatory issues and available resources
- plans and conducts investigations of claims to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages
- assesses policy coverage for submitted claims and notifies the insured of any issues
- determines and establishes reserve requirements, adjusting reserves as necessary during the processing of the claim
- refers claims to the subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate
- assesses actual damages associated with claims and conducts negotiations, within assigned authority limits, to settle claims
- performs other duties as assigned
