Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc., a prominent division of FedEx Corporation, stands as a leader in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services, specializing in the transportation of goods across the United States. Known for its commitment to exceptional customer service and innovative shipping solutions, FedEx Freight operates an extensive network of terminals and service centers to ensure timely and efficient delivery of freight. This company prides itself on fostering a safe and supportive work environment while employing cutting-edge technology to streamline operations and enhance the customer experience. With a strong legacy rooted in reliability and excellence, FedEx Freight offers numerous opportunities for professional growth within the transportation and logistics industry.
The role in question is for a Commercial Truck Driver at FedEx Freight, offering a starting pay rate of $31.26 per hour. This position involves the critical task of picking up and delivering freight between FedEx Service Centers and customers, while also supporting the sales process through customer interaction and lead generation. The driver will be responsible for operating various types of trucks, including tractor-trailer combinations such as doubles and triples, depending on applicable regulations and geographic locale. The job demands adherence to strict safety and operational standards, requiring daily pre-trip inspections, freight handling with motorized equipment, and securing loads appropriately.
In addition to driving duties, the role involves freight damage assessment and minor repairs, completion of necessary documentation, and compliance with hazardous material regulations. Effective communication with dispatch and customers is essential, as is the ability to solicit additional business and relay potential sales leads to the company's sales team. The position supports multifaceted operations, occasionally requiring drivers to perform chaining of vehicle tires or temporarily undertake work as a road driver or dock employee when operational demands call for it. FedEx Freight values employees who demonstrate strong customer service skills, can work independently or as part of a team, and have the physical capability to handle freight and manage the rigors of long-distance driving.
This in-person position comes with a detailed set of working conditions that involve exposure to various weather conditions, noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Prospective candidates should be prepared for varying work hours in response to operational needs. Finally, this job is deeply rooted in compliance with federal and company policies to ensure safety, efficiency, and high service standards at all times. FedEx Freight is also committed to equal employment opportunities and provides accommodations for disabled applicants who may need assistance during the hiring process.
