Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading transportation and logistics company specializing in freight delivery services across the United States. FedEx Freight operates as a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation, known globally for its reliable courier services. With a commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction, FedEx Freight provides efficient pickup and delivery of less-than-truckload (LTL) freight, serving a broad range of customers including businesses and individuals. The company is recognized for its comprehensive network of service centers and advanced technology that ensures timely and secure freight handling. As a well-established player in the logistics sector, FedEx Freight emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and employee development to maintain its high service standards and operational efficiency. FedEx Freight is also an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion, including providing accommodations for disabled workers and veterans.
This role is for a professional commercial truck driver responsible for picking up and delivering freight between FedEx Freight service centers and customer locations. The driver plays a critical role in supporting the company’s sales process by soliciting additional business during deliveries. Successful candidates will operate various types of commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailer combinations such as doubles and triples, as well as straight trucks. The driving position requires compliance with all federal, state, and company safety and operational regulations, including hazardous materials handling.
The starting pay rate for this position is $36.01 per hour. The employment is in-person with full-time opportunities available. Employees who work a minimum average of 12 hours per week and complete 91 days of employment are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, and/or vision coverage, as well as tuition reimbursement. Employees aged 21 and above are also eligible to participate in the company's 401(k) plan after one month of employment.
Drivers in this role must perform pre-trip inspections, secure freight correctly inside trailers using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and ropes, and handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. They are also responsible for completing necessary documentation, complying with hazardous material regulations, repairing or recouping damaged freight when required, and maintaining communication with dispatch and customers. The position may require other duties such as chaining vehicle tires and performing tasks typically associated with road drivers or dock employees when operational needs dictate. Drivers must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with necessary endorsements, including doubles/triples, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements, with an allowance for automatic transmission CDL restrictions.
The role requires physical ability to lift heavy freight up to 100 pounds multiple times per week, the capacity to sit for extended periods, and navigate in and out of trucks repeatedly. Candidates must exhibit strong communication skills, basic math proficiency, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The position operates under various weather and road conditions, exposing employees to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials. Completion of the Hazardous Materials endorsement must occur within 120 days after offer acceptance.
FedEx Freight emphasizes safety, compliance, and excellent customer service in all its operations, and this driver position is vital to maintaining the company’s reputation and operational effectiveness. If you are a qualified commercial driver seeking a stable and rewarding career with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits, FedEx Freight offers a professional and supportive environment where your skills and contributions are valued.
