Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading freight transportation company specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping services across the United States. As an integral part of the FedEx family, FedEx Freight operates a comprehensive network of service centers and a large fleet of tractor-trailers designed to deliver freight efficiently and reliably. The company is renowned for its commitment to safety, customer service, and innovation within the logistics industry.
This employment opportunity is for a professional driver role within FedEx Freight, offering an hourly wage starting at $36.18. This position requires the driver to work on-site and involves the operation of commercial motor vehicles for the transportation of freight between service centers and customers. Drivers contribute crucially to FedEx Freight's mission by supporting the selling process and engaging with customers during deliveries and pickups, helping to foster strong client relationships and potentially secure additional business leads.
In the role of a professional driver, the primary responsibility is the safe and efficient operation of tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. The driver performs daily pre-trip inspections and routine safety checks to ensure that vehicles are in optimal condition and compliant with all federal and company regulations. Handling freight includes the use of motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to load, unload, and secure cargo inside trailers effectively.
Attention to detail is critical, as drivers are required to verify and complete all necessary documentation and reports accurately. Compliance with hazardous material regulations is mandatory, and drivers must maintain thorough knowledge of proper protocols, including securing freight with pallets, straps, and ropes. Additionally, collecting payments, communicating with dispatch and customers regarding schedules and issues, and providing exceptional internal and external customer service are key components of daily duties.
The role demands physical capability to lift freight weighing up to 100 pounds, and a readiness to work in varied weather conditions and on various road types throughout the shift. Drivers must be flexible as operational needs can affect work hours. There is also a requirement to potentially perform chaining of vehicle tires and assume dock employee tasks if necessary, demonstrating versatility and teamwork.
FedEx Freight prioritizes a safe and supportive work environment and seeks candidates who are self-motivated, capable of working both independently and as part of a team. The company offers equal employment opportunities and accommodations for employees with disabilities, fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
