The role being offered is that of a Tractor-Trailer Driver, responsible for picking up and delivering freight between service centers and customers, while supporting the selling process by soliciting additional business opportunities. This position includes operating tractor-trailer combinations, including double and triple trailers where applicable, as well as straight trucks. The starting pay rate is $31.26 per hour, reflecting the demanding and skilled nature of the role.

In this capacity, the driver will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on their equipment to maintain operational safety standards. They will also be required to handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, ensuring secure loading and unloading of goods. Part of the responsibilities includes securing freight inside trailers using appropriate tools like straps and rope, as well as repairing or recouping damaged freight when necessary.

Compliance with hazardous material regulations is critical in this role, and drivers must follow established procedures to safely transport such materials. Drivers are expected to maintain accurate documentation of their deliveries, collect cash or checks as required, and communicate effectively with dispatch and customers to ensure timely and efficient freight handling.

This role demands physical stamina, as drivers must be capable of lifting heavy freight up to 100 pounds multiple times per week and endure extended periods of sitting, bending, twisting, and climbing in and out of trucks. The position may require working independently or as part of a team, with responsibilities sometimes extending to chaining vehicle tires and performing dock duties as needed.

FedEx Freight ensures that all drivers meet the necessary commercial driver requirements, including holding a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements like double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles.
