This role involves working as a professional driver responsible for picking up and delivering freight between service centers and customers, while supporting the selling process by identifying additional business opportunities. The position offers a starting pay of $31.93 per hour, reflecting the importance of skilled drivers in maintaining FedEx Freight's commitment to timely and secure cargo delivery. The role requires operating various types of trucks, including tractor-trailer combinations, doubles, triples (where applicable), and straight trucks. Drivers must perform daily pre-trip inspections and ensure safety standards are met to comply with regulatory requirements and company procedures.

Responsibilities also encompass securing freight inside trailers using appropriate materials, handling freight with motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, and managing documentation accurately. Drivers are expected to communicate effectively with dispatch and customers, demonstrating excellent customer service skills while also soliciting additional business leads. The job may require drivers to perform chaining of vehicle tires in adverse conditions and occasionally assist with duties typically performed by dock employees or road drivers, emphasizing flexibility and teamwork.

The ideal candidate must hold a class A Commercial Driver's License with endorsements for doubles/triples, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles, although an automatic transmission restriction is allowed. At least one year of relevant experience within the last three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight's Driver Development Course is required. Candidates must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record that meets hiring standards and comply with Department of Transportation regulations, particularly section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations. Drivers operating Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) in certain states need to meet additional qualification and certification standards.

Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times a week, and the capability to sit, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of trucks for extended periods. The work environment exposes employees to various weather conditions, noise, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials regulated under DOT guidelines. Hours may vary according to operational needs, making flexibility essential.
