Job Requirements
- Possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
- have at least one year of driving experience within the last three years or have completed FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
- maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record according to hiring standards
- comply with Department of Transportation regulations under section 391
- meet Long Combination Vehicles qualification and certification minimum standards if operating in specified states
- ability to count and perform basic math
- possess basic written and verbal communication skills
- be able to lift and carry hand freight up to 100 pounds repeatedly
- have physical ability to sit for extended periods and perform physical activities such as bending, twisting and climbing
- ability to follow instructions and complete training
- ability to work individually or in a team
- obtain Hazardous Materials endorsement within 120 days
Job Qualifications
- Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
- automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed
- must possess one year experience within most recent three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
- must possess acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) based on hiring standards
- must meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations
- ability to count and perform basic math with or without a calculator
- basic written and verbal communication skills
- ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week
- ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
- ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- ability to work independently and/or as a team member
- must obtain Hazardous Materials endorsement within 120 days of offer acceptance
Job Duties
- Operate tractor-trailer combination including doubles and triples and/or straight trucks
- perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
- hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
- perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment
- secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies
- recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
- verify and complete required documentation and reports
- comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
- collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation
- follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch
- communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
- demonstrate internal and external customer service
- ask for additional business from customers and provide leads to sales
- perform chaining of vehicle tires as required
- perform job duties of a road driver or dock employee where necessary
- comply with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
- perform other duties as required
