This particular role is for a Host/Hostess at one of HMSHost's restaurant locations. The Host/Hostess plays a vital role in setting the tone of the dining experience by greeting guests warmly upon arrival and seating them efficiently at appropriate tables. In addition to hospitality duties, this position involves light operational responsibilities such as managing restaurant seating charts, recording reservations, and sometimes assisting with cashier and bus duties to maintain smooth service flow. The role requires a friendly demeanor, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Hosting is not only about customer interaction but also about ensuring that the dining environment is orderly and welcoming, contributing to the overall success of the restaurant.
This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a competitive pay rate of $20.00 per hour. Job Requirements
- Customer service experience preferred
- Cash handling experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret seating charts
- Ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing manner
- Ability to bend, twist, and stand for normal job functions
- Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions and policy documents
- Ability to converse comfortably with customers
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred
- Experience with cash handling preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to read and interpret restaurant seating charts
- Demonstrated friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods
Job Duties
- Greet guests with a smile and appropriate greeting following HMSHost customer service standards
- Record customer reservations and seating times accurately
- Maintain and update restaurant seating charts
- Set up and maintain dining room areas before serving
- Assist with restocking silverware and other dining supplies
- Seat guests and advise on menus and beverage choices
- Oversee delivery and servicing of food and beverages
- Liaise between kitchen and floor staff to ensure guest satisfaction
- Perform cashier and bus person duties as needed including cashing out guest checks
- Follow HMSHost cash handling policies and maintain cash security
- Refill water and coffee and remove service items as per establishment procedures
- Perform additional team duties such as rolling silverware, expediting food orders, washing dishes, preparing food for to-go orders, and cleaning and filling table condiments
