Job Description
Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the military community through programs that build resilience, encourage support, and foster a sense of belonging among military families. Known for its commitment to serving military spouses, veterans, and their families, ASYMCA offers a wide range of social support and child and youth development programs tailored to military life challenges. The organization values inclusivity and provides employment opportunities based on merit and qualifications without discrimination. ASYMCA's Children's Waiting Room at the Pediatrics Clinic on Camp Lejeune Military Base is a vital service designed to support military families by offering supervision and care for children whose parents or siblings have medical appointments. The service operates Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 3 pm, ensuring that children aged 12 months to 12 years are cared for in a safe and nurturing environment while their family members attend to necessary medical needs.
The role involves supervising children within the Children's Waiting Room, creating a stimulating and secure environment where children can participate in age-appropriate activities and feel nurtured. This position requires an individual who is comfortable working with a diverse range of children, capable of modeling exemplary behavior, and handling communication with hospital personnel and program managers regarding any issues that may arise. The responsibilities extend beyond direct child supervision to include managing volunteers, ensuring compliance with child abuse reporting protocols, and maintaining a safe facility. The individual in this role will open and close the center daily, maintain meticulous records, ensure cleanliness of the play area and toys, and manage equipment to guarantee it is in good working condition. Given the military context, the role also requires the incumbent to have access to Camp Lejeune Military Base.
The position demands excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a strong understanding of military family dynamics, and a commitment to child safety and well-being. Employees must be prepared to comply with post-hire requirements including CPR, First Aid and KIT training, as well as background checks. This ensures the highest standards of safety and emergency preparedness are met before beginning work. Reliable transportation is also necessary to fulfill job expectations effectively.
Working with ASYMCA provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a supportive community environment that aids military families during times of medical need. Military spouses, veterans, and individuals with a military affiliation are especially encouraged to apply, reflecting the organization's dedication to supporting the military community both as a service provider and an employer.
