Job Description

James River Church is a Pastor-led and staff-driven community that fosters spiritual growth and encourages serving others with a compassionate heart. Known for its commitment to the Christian gospel and doctrine, James River Church provides not only worship services but also a variety of ministries designed to support families and individuals in their faith journey. The church supports a positive, encouraging atmosphere guided by Biblical principles and values. At the heart of the church’s mission is a dedicated team that works passionately to create a safe, welcoming environment for children, families, and the broader congregation. Their childcare ministry plays a crucial role in upholding this mission by offering dependable, loving care during church events and services. The childcare team members are seen not only as caregivers but as ministers of the gospel who exemplify Christian character, integrity, and commitment to the church’s teachings and fellowship.

This position is for a part-time Event Childcare Worker, who will work closely with the Event Childcare Coordinator to support the schedule and curriculum within the classroom. The role entails significant responsibility primarily for managing and maintaining the classroom environment, ensuring that children are cared for safely while adhering to the church’s policies and procedures. The Event Childcare Worker is entrusted with leadership duties within the classroom, either functioning as a Room Leader or Assistant Leader as assigned. They are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order, following the curriculum schedule daily, ensuring children’s physical needs such as bathroom visits and diaper changes are met, and communicating effectively with parents regarding their children. Safety is paramount, with a requirement that two workers must be present in the room at all times during childcare operations.

This role demands an individual who embodies patience, kindness, and a servant’s attitude, able to maintain control of the classroom environment with a focus on nurturing and encouraging children. The worker is expected to greet and communicate warmly with parents, recognize children’s names, handle administrative tasks such as attendance and sign-in sheets accurately, and respond swiftly to any injuries or emergencies following established protocols. The position emphasizes professionalism, including adherence to dress code, punctuality, and a no cell phone usage policy during duty hours.

Besides practical childcare skills, the role requires a person who shares in the Christian ethos of James River Church. The church expects its staff to uphold its doctrinal beliefs, maintain a close personal walk with the Lord through daily devotionals and spiritual dependence on the Holy Spirit, promote unity within the staff and congregation, and actively participate in church services and activities. This holistic approach ensures that the childcare environment is grounded in Christian love, care, enthusiasm, encouragement, and servant-heartedness.

The Event Childcare Worker must be at least 16 years old and possess a genuine love for working with children. Physical demands include the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, and move comfortably through various childcare settings, including the ability to climb stairs. The worker must not only be flexible and punctual but also fully engaged, exhibiting behavior that supports a positive and safe space for children and their families.

Overall, the position offers an opportunity to work within a vibrant church community that values faith, service, and spiritual growth. It is a vital role that contributes to the overall ministry of James River Church by providing excellent care and fostering a nurturing atmosphere where children feel secure and parents are reassured. This part-time position is ideal for individuals passionate about childcare and committed to serving within a faith-based environment.
