The Cook position at the Bright Horizons- Atlantic Station location is an essential role focused on planning and preparing nutritious, family-style meals that support children’s health, growth, and learning. Working hours are from 7am to 3pm, and the position offers an hourly wage ranging from $15.00 to $17.00, dependent on experience and qualifications. This role involves daily preparation of balanced meals following approved menus and nutritional guidelines that are tailored to meet the needs of children in an early education setting. Beyond meal preparation, the Cook is tasked with maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized kitchen environment that adheres to stringent food safety, allergy management, and sanitation procedures.

Additionally, the Cook manages inventory and places food orders through approved vendors while working collaboratively with center staff to ensure smooth and efficient meal service. The role demands physical stamina as it includes lifting, standing for extended periods, bending, and other kitchen-related physical tasks. Bright Horizons requires that employees pass necessary background checks and meet health and safety regulations including immunization and physical screening. The Cook must attain a food handler certification within 30 days of hire and preferably have coursework or certification in nutrition as well as experience in child-centric or high-volume food service settings.

Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Pass required background checks
  • Obtain a food handler certification within 30 days of hire
  • Comply with immunization and health screening requirements
  • Be able to lift and carry food and supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Stand for extended periods and perform physical kitchen tasks

Job Qualifications

  • Pass required state and company background checks
  • Meet state and company minimum education and experience requirements
  • Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
  • Obtain a food handler certification within 30 days of hire
  • Preferred coursework or certification in Nutrition
  • Preferred experience in food service in a childcare center, school cafeteria, commercial kitchen, or high-volume food service setting

Job Duties

  • Plan and prepare balanced, family-style meals and snacks following approved menus, nutritional guidelines, and daily attendance counts
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen by following food safety, allergy-management, sanitation, and health procedures
  • Manage food and supply inventory, place orders through approved vendors, and partner with center staff to support smooth daily meal service
  • Lift and carry food and supplies typically between 10 to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Stand for extended periods and perform bending, reaching, pushing carts, and repetitive kitchen and cleaning tasks
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements including immunizations and employment physical screening
  • Respond immediately and appropriately to unexpected situations or emergencies in the workplace
