Job Description
The Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) is a renowned educational institution committed to providing quality educational programs and services to its students. Located in California, CVUSD manages numerous schools and facilities dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and enriching environment for students, staff, and the community. The District prides itself on its dedication to excellence in education, diversity, and equal opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, religion, gender, or background. CVUSD emphasizes compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and strives to maintain a safe and healthy working and learning environment. This openness and commitment to employee well-being extend to all aspects of its operations, including the vital services offered by its Child Nutrition program.
The CVUSD is currently recruiting for the position of Child Nutrition Supervisor, an essential role within the District’s food services management team. This position is designed to establish an eligibility list that will fill existing and future vacancies during the life of the list. The Child Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for planning, assigning, supervising, and performing work related to the preparation, cooking, baking, serving, and distribution of meals including breakfast, lunch, and a la carte items from a standardized menu. The role requires strong leadership and organizational skills to manage large-scale food production programs compliant with all sanitation, health, and safety codes.
The successful candidate will be tasked with overseeing purchasing activities, inspecting incoming food items for quality assurance, and maintaining accurate inventory records to support efficient and cost-effective meal preparation. Training and development of child nutrition staff are an integral aspect of the role, including instructing on proper food handling, sanitation standards, and meal program policies. The Child Nutrition Supervisor collaborates closely with Child Nutrition Production Supervisors and the Director to develop delivery schedules, evaluate new recipes, and ensure high nutritional quality of all menu items. Supervisory responsibilities include directing assigned staff, addressing performance concerns, and participating in the hiring or disciplinary processes in consultation with district leadership.
The role also involves rigorous quality control measures in the food preparation process, ensuring adherence to recipes and standards while maintaining sanitary workspaces. Accurate documentation and record-keeping are vital, including maintaining attendance records and reconciling leave. Compliance with relevant state and federal laws, including the National School Lunch Program, as well as local health and safety regulations, is mandatory. The Child Nutrition Supervisor must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, exercise independent judgment, and work collaboratively to promote a productive and safe workplace.
This position offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes district-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance with employee and family coverage options, life insurance, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, a structured salary step program, longevity compensation, and retirement benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security. Employees are eligible for leave accrual proportional to their time of service, with vacation days increasing based on longevity, encouraging retention and rewarding dedication. CVUSD ensures competitive compensation aligned with public education standards and is committed to supporting the personal and professional growth of its employees.
Candidates undergo a thorough examination process including a training and experience evaluation, general fitness exam, and a structured oral interview designed to assess their knowledge, experience, fitness for duty, and ability to perform the essential functions of the position. The multi-step evaluation ensures that selected applicants possess the technical expertise and interpersonal skills required for this complex and vital role within the school district.
