This role is integral to the daily operation of the school’s cafeteria and contributes directly to the well-being and health of students by ensuring the delivery of nutritious and appealing meals. The Food Service Associate will be responsible for a range of critical functions including food preparation, meal service, maintaining sanitation and safety standards, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with program regulations. This position offers a unique opportunity to support the school nutrition program which promotes healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity and customer satisfaction.\n\nThe ideal candidate will have prior experience in food service within schools or similar institutional environments and possess a ServSafe certification. Key responsibilities include preparing breakfast, lunch, and snacks in accordance with menu guidelines; setting up and managing the serving line to ensure meals are served efficiently and correctly; maintaining food safety and sanitation in line with local health codes; assisting with inventory control and food storage; and upholding all regulatory requirements related to the School Nutrition Program.\n\nThis role demands someone who is detail-oriented, capable of working well in a fast-paced environment, and strong in customer service. The Associate will interact daily with students, parents, staff, and visitors, contributing to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Physical endurance is essential due to the demands of standing for extended periods and handling repetitive tasks. - previous volume-feeding experience in an institutional, restaurant or educational environment
- ServSafe certification

Job Duties
- Prepares school breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon snacks
- withdraws and prepares appropriate amounts of food from inventory each day as directed
- adheres to standardized recipes
- sets up serving lines and breakfast carts each day ensuring correct order, amounts, temperatures, and utensils
- serves students quickly and efficiently following meal schedules
- ensures Offer Versus Serve (OVS) compliance for meal reimbursement
- maintains sanitation by following local health department food safety requirements
- monitors and records temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and milk coolers daily
- performs general cleaning tasks and follows cleaning schedules
- assists in receiving and storing all incoming food and supplies
- helps maintain accurate monthly inventory of purchased foods and supplies
- maintains School Nutrition Program compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- ensures all meals meet reimbursable meal requirements
- keeps all required records and reports
- operates and maintains commercial kitchen equipment safely and hygienically
- communicates effectively with supervisors, staff, and customers
- performs other duties as assigned by food service coordinator
