Job Description

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) is a prominent public school district based in Louisiana, dedicated to providing quality education and a supportive environment for students and staff alike. Recognized for its commitment to excellence and comprehensive educational programs, EBRPSS serves the academic and developmental needs of a diverse student population. The district promotes inclusivity and equal opportunity, ensuring compliance with Title IX and Section 504 regulations regarding non-discrimination policies. EBRPSS also supports professional growth and ethical standards among its employees, maintaining a high standard of professional conduct.

Within this dynamic educational setting, the Child Nutrition Program Cook (CNP Cook) plays a crucial role in supporting students' health and wellness through proper meal preparation and service. This position is essential in ensuring that school meals meet safety and nutrition standards and that the food service environment is maintained to the highest sanitation and operational standards. The CNP Cook is responsible for all aspects of meal preparation, serving, and cleaning at the assigned school location, contributing directly to the wellbeing of students and staff.

The role of a Child Nutrition Program Cook involves rigorous adherence to sanitation procedures, food safety, and quality control. The CNP Cook prepares and serves meals in compliance with established standards and meal patterns, following the directions from supervisors and adhering to portion control and presentation guidelines. This position requires working collaboratively with school staff and engaging positively with the school community, including students, parents, and coworkers, to promote a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.

Employees in this role must demonstrate flexibility, adaptability to changes in routine, and a proactive approach to learning and applying best practices through ongoing job-related training. The Child Nutrition Program Cook must be proficient in the use of kitchen equipment, proper use of utensils, and cleaning protocols to ensure operational efficiency and safety. Moreover, this position requires active participation in inventory management, waste minimization, recycling efforts, and maintaining accurate records and reports as assigned.

EBRPSS emphasizes safety and professional development, so the CNP Cook is expected to uphold all safety standards, demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures including basic first aid and fire extinguisher use, and participate in professional growth opportunities. Candidates for the position must have reliable transportation and demonstrate ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment.

The position is classified within the NUH05 pay grade range, with the start date available from April 1, 2026. The closing date for applications is July 31, 2026, and the work location is to be determined. Applicants should be prepared to use the Verifent system for experience verification if they are new to EBRPSS or transitioning into a new role within the district.
