Job Description
Our company is a well-established provider of school food service, dedicated to delivering nutritious and high-quality meals to students, staff, and guests. We pride ourselves on maintaining a safe and efficient kitchen environment that adheres strictly to health codes and nutrition standards. Our operations involve preparing large volumes of food daily, necessitating skilled leadership and management in the kitchen to ensure every meal is prepared to perfection and served on schedule. We are committed to food safety, sanitation, and training our staff to uphold these values in every aspect of food preparation and service.
We are seeking a Head Cook to join our team, a pivotal position responsible for overseeing daily cooking operations within our school food service kitchen. This role plays an integral part in managing large scale food production while ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations. The Head Cook will supervise kitchen staff in the absence of the Kitchen Manager and take a lead role in preparing a diverse range of meals including meats, vegetables, gravies, desserts, and baked goods. This position requires expertise in operating various kitchen equipment including ovens, mixers, kettles, slicers, and steam tables.
The successful candidate will be tasked with planning, organizing, and executing the preparation of food according to menus and production sheets provided by dietary personnel. An understanding of proper food temperatures, nutrition, and sanitation techniques is essential to maintain food quality and safety. The Head Cook will also perform quality control checks, oversee inventory management, and collaborate with vendors and supervisors to ensure a smooth workflow.
This full-time position demands excellent leadership skills, the ability to work under pressure in a hot and physically demanding environment, and a commitment to training and supervising kitchen staff. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in conditions that may include slippery floors and hot equipment. The Head Cook is expected to contribute to maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, including the cleaning of specialized equipment and storage areas such as the milk cooler.
We offer a challenging and rewarding work environment where your culinary skills and leadership abilities can directly impact the nutritional well-being of the school community. If you have a passion for cooking, managing kitchen operations, and ensuring food safety, this is an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership role in a dynamic school food service setting.
