Job Description
Bright Horizons is a renowned early learning and childcare provider dedicated to supporting children's growth and development through high-quality education and care. Operating numerous centers nationwide, Bright Horizons offers nurturing environments where children can thrive socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Known for its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the company fosters a culture where employees are valued and empowered to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families. This inclusive approach extends to offering career development opportunities, competitive compensation, and comprehensive benefits to employees. The company has been recognized as one of FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For," underscoring its reputation as a desirable employer in the childcare sector.
The Child Care Center Assistant Cook position at Bright Horizons' Ochsner Early Learning Center offers a unique dual-role schedule, working Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, combining kitchen responsibilities with classroom engagement. This role involves approximately 20 hours per week dedicated to supporting kitchen operations—planning and preparing nutritionally balanced meals for children and staff, managing supplies and inventory, and maintaining compliance with health and sanitation standards. The remaining 20 hours focus on teaching and engaging with children within the early education setting, helping to create an enriching and supportive environment that fosters learning and development.
The Assistant Cook is responsible for menu planning, meal preparation, and kitchen management activities, which require strong organizational skills and a passion for child nutrition. Candidates must possess relevant experience in a licensed child care center, public school, or commercial kitchen environment, along with proper certification such as a Food Handlers permit or ServSafe certification in compliance with state and local regulations. Candidates must also pass state and company background checks and meet minimum education requirements, including being at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
Working in this role means becoming an integral part of a collaborative team focused on creating a safe, nurturing atmosphere that supports children's overall development. The position requires adherence to strict health and safety protocols, including immunization and employment physical screenings applicable to early education environments. Bright Horizons places a strong emphasis on employee well-being and safety, providing accommodations to comply with relevant disability and pregnancy-related guidelines.
The compensation for this role ranges from $14.42 to $19.47 per hour, reflecting factors such as experience, education, certifications, and geographical location. Bright Horizons also offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, disability insurance, and educational support through the Horizons CDA & Degree Program, which provides career development opportunities and free college degrees.
Bright Horizons is committed to equal employment opportunities, fostering a workplace free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, national origin, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic.
