The Child Care Center Assistant Cook position at the Ochsner Early Learning Center is a unique role that combines culinary expertise with early childhood engagement responsibilities. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about preparing nutritious meals and supporting healthy eating habits in children, while also contributing to the educational environment by spending part of their time interacting with children in a classroom setting. The Assistant Cook will work approximately 40 hours per week, split evenly between kitchen operations and classroom engagement. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, providing a balanced work-life routine.

In this role, the Assistant Cook will be responsible for planning and preparing well-balanced meals that meet the dietary needs of children and staff, maintaining accurate inventory and ordering kitchen supplies, and ensuring compliance with sanitation and safety regulations. This position requires both culinary skill and a genuine interest in fostering a positive environment for young learners. Job Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Relevant experience in a licensed child care center, public school, or commercial kitchen
  • Food handlers permit or ServSafe certification
  • Ability to pass required state and company background checks

Job Duties

  • Plan and prepare nutritionally balanced meals for children and staff
  • Keep an accurate inventory of supplies and place orders as needed

  • Support kitchen operations approximately 20 hours per week
  • Engage with children in the classroom approximately 20 hours per week
  • Comply with health, safety, and immunization requirements
