The role of Chief Engineer at DoubleTree by Hilton Tallahassee is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning and upkeep of the hotel’s physical infrastructure. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, servicing, and repair of all equipment throughout the property. The Chief Engineer executes the Preventative Maintenance program in accordance with MCR standards to prolong equipment lifecycle and reduce downtime. They supervise the engineering staff, including managing schedules and coordinating contractors or outside laborers to ensure quality and timely work.

An essential part of the role is responding promptly to guestroom maintenance requests and emergency situations, maintaining communication with Guest Services and the General Manager for critical issues. The Chief Engineer also manages energy expenses, promotes energy conservation, and ensures compliance with health codes, especially for amenities such as the hotel pool and spa. Maintaining key control systems, operational manuals, warranty agreements, and fire safety inspections fall under this role’s remit, along with ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulations.

This position demands a hands-on leader adept at problem-solving with strong reasoning skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Proficiency with Windows operating systems, company spreadsheets, and word processing is required, as well as valid driver’s license and a clean Motor Vehicle Driving Record. Candidates are expected to carry essential equipment to maintain readiness for work tasks at all times.

Preferred qualifications include technical or trade school degrees, relevant licensure in trades such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or carpentry, and at least two years of related work experience, ideally within hotel, apartment, or related fields. The role is suited for candidates 18 years or older who exhibit a positive attitude, effective communication skills, and a strong desire to serve guests. Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Ensure that the preventative maintenance program is implemented and administered according to MCR standards
  • Evaluate and spot check the work of all staff and contractors or outside laborers
  • Handle guestroom maintenance requests in a timely manner
  • Maintain files of and be familiar with all operational manuals and warranty agreements for equipment
  • Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine the exact location and cause
  • determine emergency status and report to Guest Services and/or the General Manager with findings
  • Manage energy expenses and continually work towards energy conservation
  • Ensure that pool and spa follow area health codes
  • Maintain a key control system and ensure it is adhered to
  • Always comply with MCR standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Train and supervise the Engineering staff and coordinate all scheduling
  • Respond to emergency situations using information contained in Material Safety Data sheets
  • Keep Material Safety Data sheets current and easily available (with Housekeeping Manager)
  • Coordinate all inspections of the fire safety systems, including extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc., to maintain proper safety standards
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner
  • Other duties as assigned
