Job Description

The Holiday Inn New Orleans Airport North, located at 1300 Veterans Memorial Blvd Kenner, LA, is a distinguished hotel that caters to travelers and visitors seeking comfortable and dependable accommodations near the airport. We are currently seeking a Chief Engineer to join the leadership team and oversee all technical and maintenance operations at the hotel. This full-time role is integral to ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and functionality of the entire property including the physical hotel building and all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and related equipment. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for maintaining energy conservation and preventive maintenance initiatives to uphold optimal working conditions and promote cost-effective resource management. By expertly managing rehabilitation, expansion, and various special projects, this position contributes significantly to the guest experience by ensuring that all areas within the hotel are attractive, safe, and fully operational.

The ideal candidate must possess extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in managing large-scale hotel engineering operations and leading maintenance teams. They will play a pivotal role in supervising engineers and technicians, developing maintenance strategies, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to building safety and fire codes. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will coordinate vendor contracts, administer budgets, and engage with management on financial forecasting and operational reviews. Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Five years of journey mechanic or engineering experience in hospitality or related industry
  • Two years’ experience as head or assistant chief engineer
  • Possession of necessary licenses including 1st class boiler and electrician’s licenses
  • EPA certification for refrigerant handling
  • Flexible to work long and irregular hours
  • Physically capable of exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work under pressure
  • Proficient in computer skills and use of engineering software
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Completion of apprenticeship or advanced training program for operating engineers or equivalent experience
  • Five years of journey mechanic or engineer experience in class A hotel or related industry
  • Two years as head or assistant chief engineer or similar role
  • Possession of required licenses such as electrician’s license and 1st class boiler license
  • EPA certification for safe use and handling of refrigerants
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC and boiler systems
  • Skilled in use of computers and engineering software
  • Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal
  • Ability to analyze building systems and implement safety standards
  • Strong leadership and team communication skills
  • Ability to translate technical information for laypersons
  • Preferred additional language skills

Job Duties

  • Maintain entire hotel facility including physical structure, mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and equipment
  • Ensure upkeep of guest areas to maintain an attractive hotel
  • Manage rehabilitation, expansion and special projects
  • Supervise and train engineering staff in customer service and operational standards
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws including safety and fire codes
  • Participate in energy conservation programs
  • Review guest and meeting planner comment cards to address issues
  • Assist with vendor contract administration and budget control
  • Repair and program hotel electronic lock systems
  • Maintain supply of materials and equipment
  • Organize administrative and filing systems within Engineering
  • Maintain inventory and storage of tools and materials
  • Respond to hotel emergencies requiring engineering expertise
  • Coordinate special guest requests and event setups
  • Assist in scheduling preventive maintenance
  • Attend required meetings and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
