This individual directs all aspects of engineering operations, encompassing emergency programs, energy management, asset protection, and preventive maintenance on equipment, structures, and grounds. A key responsibility is managing the engineering staff, overseeing the accounting and budgeting within the department, coordinating asset protection, controlling inventory, and managing human resources specific to the engineering team. The Chief Engineer ensures that all operations comply with company policies, brand standards, and all applicable local, state, and national regulations. This role is essential to maintaining the safety, functionality, and aesthetic quality of the hotel property, contributing to both guest satisfaction and financial performance.\n\nAs a senior leader reporting directly to the General Manager, the Chief Engineer plays a pivotal role in short- and long-term planning, including the preparation and management of the engineering budget, business plan, and capital expenditures. A significant part of the role involves promoting and implementing preventative maintenance programs to protect hotel assets and promptly addressing any maintenance-related problems to minimize operational disruptions. The role demands a hands-on approach, with daily property walkthroughs to identify and resolve issues and regular interaction with associates to foster a collaborative and responsive team environment.\n\nChampioning safety and compliance, the Chief Engineer oversees emergency preparedness programs, including equipment maintenance, staff training, and scheduled practice drills. They coordinate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and insurance agencies to maintain a safe and secure environment for both guests and staff. Additionally, this role involves investigating incidents and accidents, reporting findings, and recommending actions to mitigate liability risks. The Chief Engineer acts as a mentor and positive coach, providing clear direction and development opportunities for the engineering team through performance evaluations and consistent communication.\n\nGuest satisfaction is a core focus, and the Chief Engineer ensures that a high level of service is consistently delivered, setting a positive example in guest relations and responding effectively to any guest concerns. The position requires excellent leadership skills in managing and motivating all engineering personnel while actively contributing to hotel revenue growth and operational excellence. The Chief Engineer also collaborates closely with other hotel departments and corporate offices, ensuring asset accuracy and cost control, facilitating bid proposals, and upholding all relevant licenses, permits, and regulatory requirements. Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk and/or sit and continuously perform essential job functions for duration of shift
  • must be able to work in hot, cold and wet conditions and be able to stoop, kneel, crawl and climb on all types of surfaces
  • hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations
  • ability to climb stairs and ladders at a rapid pace, up to 30 feet in the air
  • grasping, lifting and holding tools and having good finger dexterity is required
  • perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on the property
  • lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds
  • frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing and smiling

Job Qualifications

  • Five or more years of related experience in building management/engineering
  • substantial and successful track record in profitable engineering management
  • familiarity with hospitality industry practices preferred
  • minimum of three years of managerial skills involving decision-making, deadline management, contract negotiation, analytical ability, and coordination of large-scale projects
  • ability to schedule, manage, and delegate work effectively and efficiently
  • excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • ability to read and communicate verbally and in writing
  • computer literacy in MS Word, Excel
  • complex mathematical skills with proficiency in Excel spreadsheets and calculators for budget preparation
