Job Description
Perdue Transportation Incorporated (PTI) is the dedicated transportation service and logistics provider for Perdue Foods, a renowned name in the food and agricultural industry. As part of the larger Perdue Farms family, a fourth-generation, family-owned business, PTI exemplifies a commitment to tradition, quality, and forward-thinking innovation. The company is deeply rooted in a culture of teamwork, integrity, and respect, fostering an environment where every team member's voice matters and is encouraged to contribute meaningfully to shared organizational goals. PTI's workforce consists of both support staff and private fleet drivers, all of whom are safety-minded professionals dedicated to delivering outstanding customer service and reliability on a daily basis.
Perdue Farms places a strong emphasis on employee growth, inclusivity, and work-life balance, striving to create a supportive atmosphere where associates feel valued and inspired. PTI, as an integral part of this legacy, extends these values into its transportation and logistics operations, ensuring that its drivers and team members thrive professionally while making impactful contributions both within the company and the communities served.
The role of Chick Delivery Driver is a vital position at the very start of Perdue's production cycle. The primary responsibility of this role is to safely and carefully transport newly hatched broiler chicks to Perdue’s contract growers. Ensuring the chicks arrive on time and in optimal condition is crucial for the success of the growers and the overall production process. This position demands a high level of attention to animal welfare, strict adherence to safe driving practices, and commitment to delivering exceptional service on the road.
Ideal candidates for this role are dependable individuals who prioritize safety and take pride in their responsibility for animal care. Chick Delivery Drivers will prepare specialized transport vehicles that can hold up to 115,200 chicks, ensuring environmental conditions such as temperature and air flow meet specific requirements before loading. Driving routes must be navigated safely and efficiently to minimize transport time and uphold chick welfare standards.
In addition to transportation duties, this role involves performing routine maintenance and sanitation of vehicles, monitoring and reporting on farm conditions upon arrival, and complying with FMCSA regulations including Hours of Service and Driver’s Logs. The physical demands include exposure to seasonal weather, operation of manual transmission trucks and forklifts, and handling a range of temperatures and environmental conditions. The position requires vigilance in maintaining protective and safety equipment required for safe operations.
This role offers a base pay rate of $32.13 per hour with guaranteed minimum wages according to law. Additional earnings include potential overtime and an annual performance-based bonus. PTI supports its employees with a competitive benefits package, including medical and prescription coverage, a 401(k) plan with employer match after one year, dental and vision insurance, life insurance options, disability protections, flexible spending accounts, and paid time off.
As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Perdue Farms ensures that all qualified applicants receive consideration without bias related to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. The Chick Delivery Driver role represents a meaningful opportunity to join a respected, family-oriented company where safety, service, and teamwork form the foundation of daily operations and long-term success.
