Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is recognized as Louisiana's leading cancer care organization, dedicated to delivering exceptional cancer treatment and care to the community. It stands out as the region's premier facility, caring for more patients than any other institution in Louisiana. The center achieves this through its strategic partnerships with hospitals and physicians, uniting efforts to enhance survivorship rates and alleviate the burdens associated with cancer. This collaborative approach ensures comprehensive cancer services that are both innovative and patient-centered. Mary Bird Perkins continuously invests in state-of-the-art treatment technologies and fosters a culture of innovation that attracts some of the best minds in oncology. These include expert physicians, highly specialized scientists, and leaders in supportive care, all working together to provide the highest quality of comprehensive cancer care.
The unique partnership model and a one-hundred percent focus on cancer care underscore the center’s commitment to excellence and specialized treatment. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is not merely a treatment facility but a community partner focused on advancing cancer care through research, education, and patient support programs. Individuals who join Mary Bird Perkins become part of a dedicated team motivated by a natural desire to support meaningful work in oncology and make a tangible difference in the lives of cancer patients.
The position of Mixing Technician at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is a critical role under the supervision of the Medical Director. This role involves preparing, compounding, and dispensing precise medical prescriptions necessary for patient treatment. As a Mixing Technician, the incumbent will be responsible for a mix of technical, clerical, and inventory-related duties within the pharmacy department. A key aspect of this role is ensuring the compounding area adheres strictly to USP standards and Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) regulations, which guarantees the safety and quality of medications prepared for patient use.
Responsibilities include receiving and storing supplies, maintaining accurate inventory records using computer systems, and ensuring a clean and safe dispensary environment. Accuracy and efficiency in preparing prescription orders, verifying dosage information, and providing quality customer service to patients and healthcare providers are essential for success in this position. The technician also plays an important part in maintaining detailed records, filing physician orders and prescriptions correctly. Beyond these duties, the Mixing Technician contributes to the overall team environment by working collaboratively to meet goals, seek opportunities for professional development, and promote a positive work culture.
This role is well suited for individuals committed to quality and safety in medication preparation, who are organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about contributing to exceptional cancer care. It offers the opportunity to work closely with healthcare teams and directly impact patient outcomes. The position is ideal for a certified pharmacy technician who thrives in a clinical pharmacy setting and is seeking to apply and expand their sterile compounding expertise within a leading cancer care institution.
