Job Description

Denver Rescue Mission is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty in the Denver, Colorado area. As one of the largest providers of emergency shelter, meals, and rehabilitation services, the mission works tirelessly to restore hope and improve lives through compassionate care and practical support. Denver Rescue Mission operates various facilities and programs that aim to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable populations while fostering long-term recovery and self-sufficiency. Their dedication to Christian principles shapes their approach, focusing on holistic healing and empowerment in a nurturing environment.

The Chef position at Denver Rescue Mission represents a vital role within their Food Services team, integral to maintaining the daily kitchen operations at the Fort Collins Rescue Mission (FCRM) facility in Northern Colorado. This role can be full-time or part-time (less than 30 hours per week), offering an hourly wage ranging between $20.29 and $21.72 based on qualifications and experience. Reporting directly to the Denver Food Services leadership team, the Chef is responsible for all culinary and kitchen activities, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, managing inventory, and supervising both paid staff and volunteers. The Chef will also engage with volunteers to ensure a positive and efficient kitchen environment, offering leadership and operational support across multiple meal services including buffet-style distribution for individuals utilizing the facility’s daily services.

The Chef’s duties extend beyond cooking to encompass detailed inventory management of donated and purchased food items, compliance with USDA and public health standards, organizing meal planning including special events, and training staff and volunteers. They must ensure cleanliness and security in all food storage and preparation areas, and oversee the maintenance and operation of kitchen equipment. Furthermore, the role involves fostering teamwork among kitchen staff and volunteers, managing schedules, and ensuring flexible coverage during holidays or staff absences. The Denver Rescue Mission provides comprehensive training, including ServSafe certification, with an emphasis on both technical skills and a heart for service. Candidates are expected to embody the mission’s Christian values and are required to comply with specific certifications such as CPR within 90 days of hire.

Working at Denver Rescue Mission offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in need, supported by a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and more. This position not only involves culinary expertise but also a commitment to community service and faith-based support, making it an ideal role for someone passionate about food service and charitable work within a Christian framework.
