Chartwells Higher Education is currently seeking a Chef Manager to join their team at Indiana University in Indianapolis. This fast-paced role is central to supporting culinary operations within student dining locations and involves managing a large staff while ensuring food preparation and production meet high standards. The Chef Manager will assist in supervising kitchen activities including cooking various food items, developing daily menu selections, and ensuring quality presentation and garnishment. They will also collaborate with the Executive Chef to create new menus and assist with ordering to maintain efficient inventory control. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience in culinary or kitchen management roles
- Ability to manage large teams in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of inventory and cost control
- Must be ServSafe Certified
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Job Qualifications
- A.S. degree or equivalent experience
- Culinary or kitchen management experience depending on formal degree or training
- Experience in high volume, complex foodservice operations
- Knowledge of institutional and batch cooking
- Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends focusing on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
- Computer proficiency
- ServSafe Certified
Job Duties
- Assist dining team with managing cost controls and control expenditures for the account
- Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with planning and creating menus
- Foster strong client relationships to align programs with their objectives, driving satisfaction and retention
- Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient functioning of dining service operations including inventory management, ordering, and administrative functions
- Supervise and mentor hourly associates to maintain high performance and operational standards
- Collaborate with culinary leadership to innovate and implement new food concepts
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards in all kitchen operations
