The role of Chef Manager at Yale New Haven Health's Yale Psychiatric Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, represents a unique leadership opportunity within Sodexo's healthcare food service operations. This position requires an independent, hands-on professional to lead the satellite behavioral health food service operations with full accountability for all on-site activities. As the operational leader, the Chef Manager will oversee patient tray service, serving line management, daily food production, and ensure the quality, consistency, and presentation of meals align with dietary requirements specific to the behavioral health setting. The individual will also maintain compliance with stringent food safety standards, including HACCP and regulatory guidelines, critical in a healthcare environment.

This position offers a dynamic and autonomous work environment where the Chef Manager will manage a team of approximately 10 unionized employees, focusing on staffing, scheduling, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives. Leadership duties include coaching and developing frontline team members to uphold Sodexo's standards for food service excellence and fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork. The role serves as the primary operational contact for client leadership and healthcare partners, reinforcing strong relationships and ensuring exceptional patient dining experiences.   • knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards
  • excellent communication and organizational skills
  • ability to build client and team relationships

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • proven success managing food service operations with a high degree of independence and accountability
  • prior food operations management experience preferably within healthcare, behavioral health, long-term care, or other institutional food service environments
  • strong leadership skills with experience supervising and developing frontline teams
  • experience working in a unionized environment is highly preferred
  • knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and healthcare dietary operations
  • excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • ability to build strong relationships with clients, patients, and interdisciplinary teams
  • CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) or Diet Technician certification preferred but not required
