Job Description
The Culinary School of Culinary Arts (CSCA) is an iconic New England landmark with a rich legacy spanning over 40 years as one of the nation’s premier culinary schools. Known for its commitment to excellence in culinary education, CSCA provides students with comprehensive training that encompasses the classic fundamentals of cooking and baking, insightful history and influences of the world’s greatest cuisines, and detailed techniques for mastering both common and exotic ingredients. The school prides itself on creating a nurturing environment where aspiring chefs and culinary enthusiasts alike can harness their skills, gain confidence, and deepen their appreciation for culinary arts. CSCA’s approach combines rigorous hands-on experiences with engaging classroom instruction, ensuring that each student leaves with a well-rounded culinary foundation and practical expertise that can drive professional success or personal fulfillment.
CSCA is currently seeking a passionate, part-time Chef Instructor to join their Recreational Program. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in an esteemed institution that values culinary education and community engagement. As a Recreational Chef Instructor, you will be tasked with delivering captivating and educational cooking experiences to a diverse group of students that includes individuals, couples, and groups of friends seeking a fun and interactive night out. You will be the catalyst for students gaining new confidence in the kitchen while expanding their culinary repertoire in an intimate, hands-on learning environment. The role requires a dynamic individual with exceptional cooking skills, a genuine passion for teaching, and outstanding customer service abilities. Since the program caters to varying skill levels ranging from beginners to advanced participants, adaptability and effective communication are essential to tailor instruction that best fits each group’s needs.
In this position, you will oversee the setup and preparation of the kitchen and lecture space, ensuring that all equipment and ingredients are ready to facilitate a seamless learning experience. You will spend a portion of class time providing up to 30 minutes of informative lecture content followed by approximately 3.5 hours of practical, hands-on cooking instruction. Maintaining rigorous standards for safety, cleanliness, and food quality is a critical aspect of the role, alongside ensuring that all food items are prepared and served properly under hygienic conditions. Beyond instructing, the role requires multitasking and a keen awareness of all activities in the kitchen to guarantee a smooth and effective class session.
Moreover, this position is part-time and paid on a per-class basis, with class schedules varying week-to-week to accommodate demand and instructor availability. Weekend and evening availability is essential as the Recreational Program primarily operates during these times. The physical demands include standing, kneeling, sitting, and walking for extended periods, as well as handling kitchen equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Working in commercial kitchen environments with variable temperature and humidity levels is also a standard part of this position. If you have a love for culinary arts, a dedication to teaching, and the ability to create memorable culinary experiences, the CSCA Recreational Chef Instructor role could be the perfect fit for you.
