Job Description
Young Life is a faith-based nonprofit organization devoted to evangelism, discipleship, and serving youth through Christian ministry. Founded with the exclusive Christian purpose of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, Young Life operates camps and programs nationwide aiming to create environments where young people can discover a meaningful relationship with Jesus. The ministry emphasizes servant leadership, spiritual growth, and community building among staff, volunteers, and guests alike. Part of its commitment includes hiring individuals who profess Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord, aligning with Young Life’s Statement of Faith and ministry policies.
Young Life’s Lost Canyon camp, located in Williams, Arizona, is a year-round operation dedicated to nurturing faith and community among its guests. Nestled at an elevation of about 7,000 feet, the camp boasts a serene mountain environment important for reflection, growth, and fellowship. The camp sees significant group attendance from May through October and hosts weekend groups throughout the school year. Lost Canyon prides itself on a welcoming and relational culture, where the majority of staff live in the nearby town of Williams, fostering connection with the local community.
This role is part of the Food Service staff at Lost Canyon, responsible for providing exceptional hospitality through food service operations that reflect Young Life’s Christian values. The position calls for a servant-hearted individual committed to supporting the spiritual formation of both staff and volunteers within the Food Service department. The core responsibilities include preparing meals, maintaining and troubleshooting kitchen equipment, overseeing shift leadership tasks, and ensuring all food service operations meet the established standards of excellence.
The Food Service role requires a strong emphasis on attentive hospitality, anticipating guest needs and responding professionally. The staff member will work closely with supervisors to plan, develop, and evaluate menus that align with Young Life Food Service Standards. This role also includes interpersonal relationship building with guests, staff, and vendors to foster a healthy and supportive community atmosphere.
Additionally, the position involves comprehensive stewardship duties, such as managing departmental finances, equipment, and personnel. Mentoring interns and volunteers is a vital part of this stewardship, encouraging a culture where all contributors feel valued and appreciated. The Food Service staff member is expected to participate in ongoing talent development initiatives, including training, leadership development, and career-pathing opportunities.
Operationally, this role demands a commitment to excellence based on national standards and organizational metrics, contributing to a camp environment that glorifies Jesus Christ through diligent work and integrity. Mandatory training includes attaining ServeSafe certification within six months of employment, highlighting a dedication to safety and best practices in food service.
The position comes with a salary range of $2,670 to $2,850 per month, dependent on experience, along with a 17% cost of living adjustment (COLA) and a housing stipend if living off camp. Young Life Lost Canyon offers a unique work setting combining professional culinary skills and Christian ministry in a vibrant camp community, making it an ideal role for applicants desiring to merge faith and vocation in a meaningful way.
