Job Description

Seattle University is a distinguished institution of higher education located in the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington. Renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and fostering a supportive campus environment, Seattle University offers a dynamic workplace for individuals passionate about contributing to an educational setting. The university partners with Chartwells Higher Ed, a prominent food service provider, to deliver exceptional dining experiences across campus. Chartwells Higher Ed emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and professional growth, ensuring a rewarding work atmosphere for its associates. This initiative reflects the university's dedication to not only student success but also the well-being and career advancement of its staff members.

We are currently seeking to hire a full-time Chef to join our campus culinary team at 901 12th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122. This role is crucial for maintaining the high standards of food quality and service that our campus community expects. The position offers competitive pay ranging from $32.00 to $35.00 per hour, with a full-time schedule that provides some flexibility depending on catering needs. Working hours and days may vary, offering variety and the chance to engage in diverse food service operations, including banquets and plated catering functions.

The Chef role involves directing, coordinating, and evaluating kitchen operations and supervising a team of food production and service associates. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with food handling, sanitation, and customer service standards while preparing high-quality food items based on standardized recipes. The role also entails overseeing inventory management, maintaining equipment sanitation, and supporting menu development. A successful candidate will have prior experience as a sous chef or Chef De Cuisine, particularly with banquet and catered plated food service. The position offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant campus setting where your culinary expertise will directly impact the dining experiences of students, faculty, and staff.

This position aligns with Chartwells Higher Ed’s commitment to investing in their people through opportunities for training, development, and competitive benefits. Full-time associates enjoy access to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, commuter benefits, and wellness programs among others. We foster a supportive and inclusive workplace where diversity is valued. The job also offers unique perks such as Instapay through the One @Work app, allowing associates to receive earned wages promptly.

Applicants should be aware that there may be seasonal fluctuations in workload, corresponding with academic calendar breaks such as winter and summer when food service demands decrease. During these times, work may be reduced or paused, which may be unpaid; however, there is potential for year-round employment at varying locations depending on operational needs. We encourage candidates who are ready to contribute to a mission-driven environment focused on quality, safety, teamwork, and excellence to apply today!
