Within the educational sector, Compass Group operates Chartwells Higher Ed, a division dedicated to providing exceptional dining services to college and university campuses. This division prides itself on delivering diverse and nutritious meal options that cater to students, faculty, and staff while fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere across its foodservice locations.
At Canisius College located in Buffalo, NY, Chartwells Higher Ed is currently seeking a full-time Chef to join their campus foodservice team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the college’s kitchen and food production areas. The Chef will report to the culinary management team and will be intimately involved in directing, coordinating, and evaluating kitchen and food production activities. This position requires a detail-oriented professional skilled in overseeing kitchen associates and maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.
The Chef position at Chartwells Higher Ed offers a fixed pay rate of $23.00 per hour and operates on a full-time schedule, with shifts potentially varying between mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekdays, and weekends depending on the needs of the college’s dining services. As a valued team member, the Chef will engage in a variety of responsibilities including supervising cooks and kitchen staff, enforcing sanitation and customer service standards, managing food inventory and waste, and assisting with recipe and menu development.
This role is perfect for someone with prior food service kitchen experience who thrives in a fast-paced educational environment. The successful candidate will embrace Compass Group’s core values of collaboration, empowerment, and continuous growth, while delivering an enjoyable dining experience to the campus community. Additionally, the Chef will have access to numerous benefits ranging from health and wellness programs to retirement plans and associate discounts. By joining this team, the candidate will not only leverage their culinary skills but also contribute meaningfully to a supportive and dynamic work culture that values diversity and inclusion.
Joining at Chartwells Higher Ed means becoming part of a company that invests in its people through training, development, and meaningful career progression opportunities. Applicants can expect a supportive environment where their contributions are respected and their personal and professional growth is prioritized.
Employment as a Chef at Canisius College includes adherence to strict sanitation and safety policies, participation in payroll and scheduling duties, and maintaining the cleanliness and operational readiness of the foodservice areas. The position requires a commitment to quality, effective team leadership, and excellent communication skills. The role may also involve periods of reduced workloads such as winter and summer breaks, reflecting the academic calendar, which may result in temporary layoffs if the business demands decrease significantly.
Compass Group is committed to fair hiring practices and equal employment opportunities. The company embraces diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all candidates and associates receive fair consideration regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristics. This commitment extends to offering reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals and maintaining a drug-free workplace. The team at Chartwells Higher Ed looks forward to welcoming candidates who are enthusiastic about stepping into a meaningful role that supports student life and campus community well-being through quality culinary operations.
