We are currently seeking a full-time Chef to join our dynamic campus team. This role requires an individual with prior food service kitchen experience who is passionate about directing and coordinating kitchen operations to deliver exceptional food quality and service. The Chef will be responsible for managing the daily activities of kitchen staff, ensuring compliance with all food handling and sanitation standards, and consistently preparing high-quality menu items according to standardized recipes. This position offers a fixed pay rate of $23.00 per hour and involves a flexible full-time schedule that may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekdays, and weekends, with specific details provided during the interview process. The role is essential to creating an enjoyable dining experience on campus by maintaining food quality, proper portion control, and presentation standards.

As a Chef at Canisius College, you will supervise, coordinate, and participate in food preparation and service activities while managing hourly kitchen associates. Your responsibilities will include interviewing, scheduling, payroll oversight, training, and performance reviews. You will also monitor food usage, wastage, and inventory quality through product inspection and ordering supplies as needed. Maintaining a clean and sanitized work environment is critical to ensure safety and compliance. Additionally, the Chef will have the opportunity to contribute creatively by selecting and developing recipes and menus.

Job Requirements

  • Prior food service kitchen experience
  • Ability to work varying full time schedule including mornings afternoons evenings weekdays and weekends
  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to supervise and train hourly kitchen associates
  • Ability to maintain food safety sanitation and quality standards
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with team members and management
  • Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic

Job Duties

  • Supervises prepares and serves food ensuring quality and safety
  • Coordinates and participates in kitchen activities and food production
  • Supervises hourly kitchen associates including interviewing scheduling payroll training and counseling
  • Ensures food handling sanitation and customer service standards are met
  • Tracks food use waste and requisitions or purchases products
  • Receives and inspects product and supplies for quality and quantity
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and workstations
  • Selects and develops recipes and menus
  • Performs other duties as assigned
