The role offered is a full-time Chef position located at ACIPCO - 1501 31st Avenue North in Birmingham, AL. This position offers an hourly pay range of $20.00 to $23.00 per hour, with a schedule from Monday through Friday, hours may vary, and further details will be provided during the interview process. This position is critical for overseeing kitchen operations and ensuring that all food production and service meet Canteen’s high standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The chef will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating kitchen staff and food production associates, managing food preparation, cooking, and service activities, and maintaining compliance with food handling, sanitation, and customer service standards.

The role demands leadership skills as the chef will supervise kitchen associates, including responsibilities for hiring, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions. The candidate will be expected to efficiently prepare high-quality food items following standardized recipes to ensure production and servicing schedules are met. In addition to cooking and serving meals, the chef will monitor food portion control, presentation, serving temperature, and waste to optimize inventory requisition and purchasing. The position also includes responsibilities for inspecting incoming supplies and maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards in all kitchen areas and equipment.

Job Duties

  • Directs, coordinates and evaluates kitchen, food production and food-service associates
  • Supervises, coordinates and participates in activities of cooks and other associates engaged in preparing, cooking and serving food
  • Ensures all food handling, sanitation and customer service standards are met
  • Manages hiring, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, reviews and disciplinary actions for hourly kitchen associates
  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes to meet production, delivery and service schedules
  • Ensures proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • Tracks food use, waste and consumption to requisition or purchase product
  • Inspects received product and supplies for quality and quantity
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • Cleans workstations and display equipment to ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, production and merchandising requirements
  • Helps select and develop recipes and menus
  • Performs other duties as assigned
