Job Description
The Westin Pittsburgh, located at 1000 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a renowned establishment within the hospitality industry, specifically focusing on food and beverage services. Known for its commitment to guest wellness and delivering exceptional culinary experiences, The Westin Pittsburgh operates as part of Marriott International, a global leader in hospitality. The hotel's mission revolves around empowering guests to regain control and enhance their well-being during their travels. To achieve this, they emphasize hiring passionate and committed employees who embody wellness practices in their personal and professional lives. At The Westin, employees are encouraged to take pride in their health, optimism, and adventurous spirit, making it an ideal workplace for individuals seeking growth and purpose in a dynamic environment.
This full-time, non-management culinary role offers a competitive hourly wage of $23.00. The position is not remote and involves active, hands-on work within the hospitality kitchen environment. The Westin Pittsburgh has recently partnered with Rouxbe Culinary School to provide its culinary associates with online training opportunities designed to help advance their careers. This partnership grants employees access to hundreds of well-designed and visually engaging culinary lessons that can be immediately applied to their daily tasks.
In this role, associates are responsible for preparing special meals, managing product replacements, regulating oven and grill temperatures, and ensuring appropriate portioning and presentation of food. Maintaining a high standard of food quality and quantity control is critical, as is communication with kitchen management and the Food and Beverage service team regarding inventory and specials. Associates play an important role in reporting any excess food products so that they can be utilized in daily specials, ensuring minimal waste. Additionally, they assist with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, coaching, disciplining, motivating, and mentoring other team members as needed, serving as positive examples. Strict adherence to company safety policies, including reporting unsafe conditions and maintaining certifications, is mandatory. The role also requires maintaining professional appearance standards and upholding confidentiality and asset protection.
Physical demands of the position include standing, walking, sitting for extended periods, reaching, bending, twisting, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds independently. Effective communication, positive interpersonal relationships, and a team-oriented mindset are essential. The ideal candidate is motivated, follows high-quality standards, and works diligently to meet shared team objectives while anticipating guest service needs.
Westin Pittsburgh and Marriott International are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, and celebrating diversity among employees. The company does not discriminate based on disability, veteran status, or other protected characteristics. As part of the Westin brand, they aim to be recognized as a leader in wellness within the hotel industry, making their employees' wellness an integral part of their workplace culture. Candidates passionate about personal well-being and growth will find this position fulfilling and empowering, with clear pathways to become their best versions through continuous learning and supportive teamwork.
