The Chef de Cuisine role at Promega is designed to extend the leadership of the Executive Chef by actively supporting the management of daily kitchen operations across the three café locations and associated catering programs. The Chef de Cuisine will act as a hands-on leader, engaging directly with kitchen teams to model professionalism, coaching, and mentoring while ensuring accountability in all service points. Responsibilities include overseeing the preparation and service of café menu items and catering services to guarantee consistency and adherence to approved recipes. The Chef de Cuisine plays an integral part in bridging communication between kitchen staff and higher management, addressing operational issues promptly and ensuring alignment across all locations. The Chef de Cuisine must be adept at prioritizing tasks, problem-solving under pressure, and maintaining composure during busy service periods. Expertise in inventory management, recipe scaling, and safe food handling is required, along with food safety certification such as ServSafe. Familiarity with digital tools, including Microsoft applications and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, is highly valued for enhancing kitchen efficiency and collaboration. Experience in high volume, multi-location food service and catering or banquet preparation is preferred.

Physical demands include the ability to remain stationary for extended periods, move between buildings on campus, handle items weighing up to 50 pounds, and drive with a valid driver's license. Job Duties

  • Maintain awareness of operational needs across all three kitchen locations and provide coaching and guidance to kitchen teams
  • Step into leadership responsibilities during the Executive Chef's absence including managing kitchen operations and overseeing service execution
  • Develop culinary staff through training and mentoring focusing on professionalism, food safety, and operational excellence
  • Bridge communication between kitchen teams and leadership by surfacing operational issues and sharing updates
  • Support the preparation of café menu items and catering service execution ensuring consistency and adherence to approved recipes
  • Monitor kitchen cleanliness, organization, safety compliance, and equipment maintenance
  • Collaborate with culinary leadership to maintain a positive and efficient work environment built on mutual respect and inclusion
