The Cook / Commis Chef role is pivotal in crafting memorable dining experiences that delight the senses and celebrate culinary artistry. You will play an essential role in upholding cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with local laws and company standards, ensuring that every meal is prepared in a safe and sanitary environment.

Your responsibilities will include not only preparing exquisite meals but also managing kitchen supplies, minimizing waste, and keeping equipment in optimal condition. Collaboration and communication are crucial, as you will be reporting any safety issues or supply shortages promptly to supervisors or duty managers. Your flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a supportive team will be highly valued, alongside your willingness to assist with washing up and other kitchen duties when needed. This role also demands a good level of physical strength due to frequent lifting and movement of heavy items, as well as strong literacy and numeracy skills to follow recipes and comply with local food handling regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Meet minimum age requirements
  • Comply with local food handling and alcohol serving laws
  • Capable of flexible working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Physically able to perform kitchen duties requiring lifting and manual labor
  • Adhere to safety and cleanliness standards
  • Maintain personal hygiene and wear proper uniform
  • Communicate effectively and warmly with team members and guests

Job Qualifications

  • Good grasp of reading, writing, and basic maths
  • Ability to communicate warmly and clearly
  • Fluent in the local language
  • Knowledge of food handling and safety regulations
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Experience in kitchen or food preparation preferred but not mandatory
  • Physically able to lift, push, and pull objects up to 50lbs

Job Duties

  • Turn high standards into memorable meals with your signature flare
  • Own your kitchen by keeping supplies and equipment well managed and minimizing waste
  • Report unsafe equipment, low supplies, or safety incidents to supervisors or managers
  • Follow safety procedures and wear protective equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness exceeding local hygiene laws
  • Assist with washing up and additional kitchen duties as needed
  • Wear uniform with pride and take on ad-hoc duties as required
