The Chef position at Canteen represents an exciting opportunity for an energetic and entrepreneurial culinary professional. Scheduled Monday through Friday from 10am to 8pm (with an upcoming schedule adjustment to 10am-7pm), the role offers an annual salary ranging from $50,000 to $55,000. As a Chef, the individual will be responsible for ensuring top-notch client and customer service satisfaction by providing essential culinary resources and support. This position may involve managing scheduling, discipline, and hiring within the culinary department. Additionally, the Chef will collaborate with the Chef Manager and Sous Chef to develop new menus, recipes, and ordering protocols.

The role demands a proactive approach to supporting the culinary operations, including assistance with food cost control, menu planning, purchasing, and adherence to strict food quality guidelines. The Chef will also play a key role in executing catering events and rolling out new culinary programs alongside marketing and culinary teams. This position offers the chance to engage with high-volume batch cooking and complex food service operations, with an emphasis on quality, sanitation, cost control, and presentation.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of culinary management experience
  • Hands-on chef experience
  • Knowledge of food cost control and menu planning
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm, changing to 10am to 7pm
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage scheduling, discipline, and hiring if required

Job Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of culinary management experience
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations
  • Hands-on chef experience is required
  • Extensive catering experience is preferred
  • High volume batch cooking and complex food service operations experience is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • ServSafe Certification is preferred
  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products including Excel
  • Associate's degree in Culinary Arts is preferred

Job Duties

  • Provides frontline culinary resources and support
  • Assists with food cost control, menu planning, purchasing, and ensures food quality guidelines are followed
  • Assists with planning and creating menus
  • Produces and executes catering events
  • Rolls out new culinary programs in conjunction with marketing and culinary team
  • Assists with managing cost controls and control expenditures for the account
  • Performs other duties as assigned
