Job Description
York Gardens Senior Living is a distinguished senior living community located in Edina, Minnesota, a vibrant and accessible area known for its friendly neighborhoods and excellent transportation links. Conveniently situated near major highways such as Highway 100, I-35W, and I-494, York Gardens offers a serene environment combined with easy accessibility, making it an ideal residence for seniors. The community provides 76 well-appointed apartments that cater to Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care needs, emphasizing a warm, inviting, and supportive atmosphere. This community is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents by providing comprehensive services and amenities tailored to promote comfort, safety, and well-being.
York Gardens Senior Living is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Chef/Cook to join their culinary team. This part-time role is designed to operate on a 40-hour schedule spread over two weeks, with shifts primarily during the day. The workdays include a mixture of weekdays and weekends, ensuring that meals are consistently prepared and delivered to meet the dietary and nutritional needs of the senior residents. The Chef/Cook position is pivotal in maintaining the community's standard of excellence by preparing and presenting meals that comply with food safety regulations and exceed customer expectations.
The role demands attention to detail and a commitment to quality, as the Chef/Cook will be responsible for preparing food items to specific temperatures, using standardized recipes to ensure consistency in quality and nutritional value. The successful candidate will have experience or an understanding of specialized diets, particularly texturized diets that conform to the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) standards, an essential consideration for seniors with swallowing difficulties.
Beyond culinary skills, the role includes responsibilities for kitchen hygiene and sanitation, requiring the Chef/Cook to follow cleaning protocols, use the proper equipment and chemicals, and ensure a clear separation between clean and dirty work areas. This position may also involve supervising kitchen staff and managing daily operations when the supervisor is unavailable, reflecting its importance within the team.
York Gardens Senior Living places a high emphasis on providing a supportive and reliable work environment. Employees in this role benefit from a stable schedule, inclusion in a team committed to culinary excellence, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to seniors' lives. The organization values continuing education and professional development, which is reflected in benefits such as tuition reimbursement and access to certification opportunities.
The offered hourly wage ranges from $21.84 to $30.83, reflecting experience and qualifications. Potential hires should note that the company prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when determining compensation. Additionally, eligible roles may receive sign-on bonuses based on prevailing programs at the time of hire.
Ebenezer, the parent organization, supports its workforce with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, paid time off including sick and safe leave, and retirement plans. Employees also enjoy early access to earned wages, fostering financial stability. York Gardens Senior Living embraces diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fair and equitable hiring practices regardless of protected statuses.
In summary, this role is fit for individuals who are passionate about culinary arts, attentive to seniors’ unique dietary needs, and eager to work in a close-knit community that values respect, support, and professional growth. Working as a Chef/Cook at York Gardens Senior Living means contributing to a mission that prioritizes high-quality care, safety, and satisfaction for senior residents in a friendly and well-equipped environment.
