Job Description

Bethesda Senior Living Communities is a reputable senior care organization dedicated to providing exceptional living experiences for elderly residents. As a community-focused establishment, it emphasizes compassionate care, respect, and the promotion of wellness for seniors by offering a supportive and nurturing environment. Bethesda Senior Living specializes in assisted living, memory care, and rehabilitation services, aiming to enhance the quality of life for each resident by addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs. The company values its staff as essential partners in creating a meaningful community where seniors feel respected and valued. This makes Bethesda Senior Living Communities a distinguished choice for professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of older adults through compassionate service and dedicated teamwork.

The role of Chef/Cook at Bethesda Senior Living Communities is a full-time position involving preparation and oversight of nutritious and appealing meals tailored specifically for the senior population. It includes working day and evening shifts on a flexible schedule with every other weekend required. The Chef/Cook will play a crucial role in ensuring that all meals are prepared according to established recipes and menus, meeting the dietary requirements and preferences of elderly residents. This role demands excellent cooking and baking skills, a deep understanding of geriatric nutrition, and sensitivity to specialized diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, and liquid diets commonly prescribed to seniors.

The position is primarily culinary and service-focused, with no managerial duties, and requires a hands-on approach to kitchen operations. The Chef/Cook will work closely with the Culinary Services Director to design menus that are both nutritious and appealing, assist in meal presentation, and ensure that all kitchen and dining areas meet sanitation standards. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as setting up the kitchen for daily operations, maintaining proper food storage temperatures, and preserving the confidentiality and dignity of the residents at all times.

Working at Bethesda Senior Living Communities means joining a team that values honesty, integrity, and a servant leadership mindset. Staff members are expected to cultivate a warm and positive environment for residents, families, vendors, and guests. The kitchen environment is fast-paced and requires efficient multitasking, prioritization, and the ability to adapt to emergencies and unexpected situations while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, and frequent movement between the kitchen and dining areas.

The company offers an attractive benefits package for full-time employees, including medical insurance options (HDHP or PPO), vision, dental, and life insurance, health savings accounts with company match, flexible spending accounts, a company matching 403(b) plan, paid vacation, personal, sick and holiday leave, a paid volunteer program, an employee assistance program, and wages on demand. These benefits may vary depending on employment status. Bethesda Senior Living Communities reserves the right to adjust compensation based on varying factors, reflecting their commitment to fair and competitive pay.

Overall, the Chef/Cook role offers a unique opportunity for culinary professionals who wish to combine their passion for cooking with a genuine desire to serve and enhance the lives of senior residents. It invites individuals who possess both technical culinary capabilities and compassionate interpersonal skills to become an integral part of a dedicated caregiving community committed to delivering quality meals and supportive service every day.
