Job Description
The hiring establishment for this position is a school district nutrition program dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious meals across all district schools. The district is committed to creating a positive and effective learning environment by offering an efficient and health-conscious food service program. This school district plays a vital role in ensuring that students receive meals that comply with nutrition standards set at the federal, state, and local levels, thereby promoting student health and well-being. The district values innovation, quality, and safety in meal preparation, striving to meet USDA requirements and maintain exemplary standards in school food service.
The role being offered is that of a Chef, a critical position within the school nutrition program. As a Chef, you will be responsible for enhancing the food service experience by creating and facilitating recipes tailored for school cafeterias while ensuring nutritional value, safety, and flavor quality. This position also includes a significant role in training cafeteria staff, developing standardized recipes that comply with the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs, and other federal food service programs such as At-Risk, CACFP, and Seamless Summer Food Service programs. Your work will directly impact student health, school nutrition quality, and compliance with food safety protocols.
The Chef will manage food trends by incorporating popular and appealing options for students and school staff, ensuring the menus stay fresh, innovative, and attractive. Part of your responsibilities will be creating training videos and conducting on-site or virtual training sessions to assist schools in successfully executing recipes and managing food services. Furthermore, you will help maintain and develop commodity food and KPI usage to ensure efficient resource management.
In addition to culinary tasks, the Chef role involves community engagement by participating in nutrition education programs, health fairs, PTA meetings, district initiatives, and community events to promote the school meal program. You will be expected to uphold strict HACCP protocols and provide operational procedures that guarantee food safety and quality across all district schools. This position not only demands culinary expertise but also leadership, communication skills, and a proactive approach toward continuous improvement in school food services.
The position is designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Restaurant Management, or related fields, combined with extensive vocational experience in culinary arts or equivalent education and experience totaling eight years. Candidates must hold or be willing to obtain ServSafe certification within six months of employment, while HACCP certification is preferred. This comprehensive role offers a unique opportunity to influence the quality of school nutrition on a broad scale, supporting the health and academic success of thousands of students. If you are passionate about food service, nutrition, and educational support, this Chef position provides a rewarding challenge within a dynamic and impactful school district environment.
