Job Description
Holland Home is Michigan's leading nonprofit senior living and care organization, known for its dedication to excellence and compassion in every aspect of service. Established to offer a full continuum of services tailored to the needs of older adults, Holland Home provides everything from independent living to skilled nursing. The communities under their care are thoughtfully designed to cater to diverse lifestyles, ensuring that residents experience comfort, connection, and personalized care. The organization’s mission-driven environment fosters a sense of purpose, dignity, and community among residents and staff alike. Whether building a career or exploring volunteer opportunities, individuals at Holland Home find supportive surroundings where their work truly impacts lives.
The role of Chef at Holland Home is a full-time position that requires passion, creativity, and attention to detail in the culinary arts. This position is integral to the daily operations of the kitchen, where the Chef is responsible for preparing and cooking meals for residents and staff using standardized recipes. The Chef must comply with all regulatory requirements, ensuring that every food item meets strict standards for temperature, quality, consistency, freshness, taste, and appearance. Working full-time, 40 hours per week, with a schedule from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm (with some variations), this role combines culinary skills with a compassionate approach, contributing to the comfort and well-being of a senior community.
The Chef at Holland Home undertakes a variety of tasks such as advanced meal preparation, temperature monitoring, and taste testing to maintain high food quality standards. Cleanliness and organization are paramount, with responsibilities including cleaning prep areas and equipment, labeling food containers appropriately, and maintaining several important logs, including temperature, delivery, and sanitation records. The position also emphasizes respecting and upholding resident rights within daily practices, reinforcing Holland Home’s commitment to dignity and respect in all interactions.
The compensation for this role is competitive and reflective of experience, paired with a comprehensive and flexible benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, demonstrating Holland Home’s commitment to employee well-being. Additional advantages include a benefit credit that grows with years of service and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, ensuring long-term financial security for employees. This role demands meeting certain qualifications such as at least a high school diploma or equivalent, 6-12 months of cooking experience with a preference for large-scale food preparation, completion of food safety training within 90 days, and the ability to pass physical and background checks. A valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID is also required.
Holland Home places high value on interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents, and their families, and the capacity to perform cooking tasks independently while adhering to attendance standards. The role is well-suited for individuals who have a strong sense of culinary passion, a commitment to food safety and quality, and a heart for serving a senior community with dedication and respect. Joining Holland Home means being part of a meaningful mission where culinary expertise directly enhances the lives of others, creating a warm, nourishing experience that goes beyond simple meal preparation.
