Job Description

The Sanctuary at Brooklyn Center Senior Living is a welcoming and affordable senior living community strategically located near the intersections of major highways I-694, I-94, and Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center. This community is ideally situated just down the street from key retail outlets such as CVS and CUB Foods, making it a convenient and accessible location for residents and their families. The Sanctuary offers 158 apartments that cater specifically to Assisted Living and Memory Care, providing a supportive environment for seniors who require various levels of care. Residents enjoy a worry-free lifestyle in a warm, community-oriented setting where personalized services are provided to meet individual needs and preferences.

The role available is a Cook position focused on preparing and presenting meals in accordance with applicable regulations and customer expectations. This role's schedule includes a rotating two-week cycle with varied shifts, offering a mix of morning and evening hours including weekends. The position demands a strong commitment to food safety, quality, and nutrition, including specific expertise in preparing texturized diets following the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization (IDDSI) guidelines. The successful candidate will not only prepare and assemble meals but will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment. Beyond cooking, the position requires leadership skills to supervise kitchen staff and manage daily operations in the absence of a supervisor. Effective communication with residents and guests is critical, especially in relaying feedback about meal quality and service.

  • Must be 18+ years old
  • Food Handlers certification issued by an ANAB-CFP accredited food sanitation program within 90 days

Job Qualifications

  • Vocational school technical training or associate degree in food service preferred
  • 1 - 3 years experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft applications preferred
  • Food Protection Manager certification issued by an ANAB-CFP accredited food sanitation program within 90 days preferred
  • Certified Food Protection Manager certificate (CFPM) issued by the State of Minnesota for locations in the state of MN within 90 days preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook food items to specified temperatures following standardized recipes to ensure consistent quality nutritional value and proper portioning
  • Weigh and measure ingredients per standardized recipes
  • Assemble meals and bakery items within designated time frames complete daily preparation tasks accurately and assist with special events
  • Prepare texturized diets utilizing International Dysphagia Diet Standardization (IDDSI) standards
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by following proper cleaning schedules using recommended equipment and chemicals separating clean and dirty areas and thoroughly scrubbing pots and pans as required
  • Supervise kitchen staff manage daily operations and customer service in the supervisor’s absence
  • Effectively communicate resident and guest feedback on meal and service quality
