Job Description
Porchlight is a distinctive New York bar that brings a unique Southern charm to the bustling metropolis. This establishment has successfully blended the soulful hospitality, vibrant food, and innovative drink culture of the ever-evolving South with the dynamic energy and hustle of New York City. Born from Southern roots in cities like Charleston, New Orleans, and Memphis, Porchlight delivers a dining and social experience that pays homage to its heritage while embracing the diversity and fast-paced life of its home. This combination creates an inviting atmosphere where guests can enjoy the warmth of Southern traditions alongside the sophistication and creativity typical of New York's best venues. As a bar known for its lively spirit and dedication to quality, Porchlight provides an authentic experience that bridges two worlds and appeals to locals and visitors alike.
The role of Chef at Porchlight is central to maintaining this unique hospitality culture. The Chef is tasked with setting the tone in the kitchen by fostering an environment of Enlightened Hospitality—a foundational value that emphasizes respect, warmth, and excellence in all interactions. This leadership position entails overseeing the daily culinary operations to ensure consistency, efficiency, and seamless collaboration between the kitchen and the dining room staff. The Chef is responsible for upholding the highest standards in terms of culinary execution, team communication, and leadership, thereby shaping not only the quality of the food but also the overall guest experience. The role extends beyond day-to-day operations to include strategic administrative responsibilities such as ordering supplies, managing inventory and food costs, and staff scheduling. A significant part of the Chef’s duties also involves talent development through hiring, onboarding, coaching, and training team members, fostering a supportive environment where staff can grow professionally. This leadership position offers a competitive salary starting at $75,000 annually, with eligibility for performance-based bonuses. Joining Porchlight’s team means contributing to a thriving business that values creativity, care, and the continuous improvement of its culinary offerings and hospitality standards. This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled culinary professional to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant, culturally rich setting that celebrates both Southern heritage and New York innovation.
