Job Description
Our company is a reputable organization specializing in providing exceptional food service operations within educational environments. We pride ourselves on delivering nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective meal options tailored to students, staff, and parents. With a strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, we continuously strive to foster a positive and inclusive dining experience in schools. Our team is dedicated to upholding the highest standards in food preparation, kitchen management, and compliance with all health regulations, ensuring a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all stakeholders.
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Culinary Specialist to join our culinary team. This role is vital in driving the culinary excellence that defines our service offerings. As a Culinary Specialist, you will be responsible for managing food costs, budgeting, and culinary operations with a focus on food safety standards and nutritional integrity. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating monthly menus that are not only nutritionally balanced but also appealing and satisfying to our diverse customer base. Additionally, you will oversee the training and development of kitchen staff, ensuring they are proficient in food safety, cooking techniques, and food presentation.
The ideal candidate will possess culinary skills, a food handler's card, and experience with cafeteria budgeting and food cost management. Clear and professional communication skills are required to liaise effectively with team members and management, ensuring smooth kitchen operations. A solid foundation in basic computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, is essential for managing inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining records. Sensitivity and respect for people from various cultural, socio-economic, and experiential backgrounds are crucial as you will be interacting with a diverse community.
This position requires a hands-on approach, including preparation and cooking of food in accordance with recipes and production guidelines. You will create new recipes utilizing commodities and purchased products, conduct taste testing, and perform roving chef demonstrations to engage customers and improve meal offerings. Effective menu input into nutritional analysis programs and placing food and supply orders within budget constraints will also be part of your responsibilities.
Working closely with the Cafeteria Manager, you will ensure quality workmanship, adherence to health regulations, and excellence in kitchen operations. This role includes supervisory duties such as evaluating subordinate employees and submitting timely reports. The demands of this position require physical stamina and the ability to work a 50-60 hour workweek, occasionally extending to six or seven days, to meet operational needs and attend corporate meetings or functions.
This job description highlights essential duties and responsibilities but is not exhaustive. The Culinary Specialist must be adaptable to perform various functions necessary for the effective operation of the department. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. If you are passionate about culinary arts and food service management, and ready to contribute to a dynamic team in a school environment, we invite you to apply for this rewarding opportunity.
