Their training begins with a seven-week A school at Fort Lee, Virginia, where they learn essential cooking techniques, nutrition, and dining service management. There are ample opportunities for career advancement and technical training throughout their service.
With approximately 60 percent of their careers spent on fleet units and 40 percent at shore stations, Culinary Specialists experience a variety of work environments that keep the role dynamic and engaging. These Sailors also benefit from educational programs such as the American Council on Education credit transfers, Naval Community College degree programs, Navy College Program, and tuition assistance, allowing them to pursue further education while serving.
