The role of Cheese Manager at Dierbergs is a unique opportunity to lead and innovate within the cheese department, providing customers with an unmatched cheese experience. As Cheese Manager, you will develop and implement merchandising strategies aligned with company objectives to enhance cheese offerings. You will lead, train, and motivate a team of Associates, ensuring they are knowledgeable about cheese products, sales techniques, and food safety standards. Managing all aspects of the cheese department's operations—from production and inventory management to sales and food safety protocols—will be a key responsibility.

The position also involves close collaboration with the Deli/Seafood management team to maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and profitability. As the face of the cheese shop, you will engage directly with customers, preparing and selling signature foods, including rotisserie and smoked meats, sliced cheeses, and various seafood items, all while maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. Flexibility is essential as the role requires working varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, with a healthy work-life balance thanks to early closing hours in the department.

Job Requirements

  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess at least 1 year of retail or customer service experience preferably in a managerial capacity
  • Have strong knowledge of cheese products
  • Ability to drive sales through customer engagement and merchandising
  • Basic computer literacy including iPad usage
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Physical ability to lift up to 15 lbs frequently and 40 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to push and pull product-loaded carts up to 250 lbs occasionally
  • Be capable of sitting, climbing occasionally, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, and handling frequently
  • Frequent head turn, trunk bend, side reach, grasp, power grip, pinch, finger manipulation, and feeling
  • Constant ability to stand, handle items, and reach forward

Job Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in retail or customer service environment preferably in a managerial role
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of cheese products and ability to represent them confidently
  • Proven ability to drive sales through suggestive selling, sampling, cross-merchandising, and innovative display presentations
  • Display creativity and innovation with a strong aesthetic sensibility and eye for detail
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use iPad for customer orders, order pick up, and training
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and varying shifts

Job Duties

  • Developing and implement merchandising strategies to enhance cheese offerings aligned with company objectives
  • Leading, training, and motivating Associates on cheese products, sales techniques, and food safety
  • Maintaining meticulous oversight of departmental operations including production, sales, inventory management, and food safety protocols
  • Ensuring seamless execution of cheese shop operations and supporting other areas of the Deli/Seafood department as needed
  • Collaborating with the Deli/Seafood Management Team to uphold quality, consistency, and profitability
  • Overseeing training, development, and motivation of Associates to foster a high-performing environment
  • Preparing and selling signature foods, rotisserie and smoked meats, sliced cheeses, varieties of seafood, and more
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary department adhering to food-handling procedures
  • Providing friendly and knowledgeable service to every customer
  • Demonstrating flexibility in working varied schedules including evenings and weekends
