Metropolitan Market, LLC is a renowned grocery store chain located in the Seattle area, known for providing high-quality products and exceptional customer service. Committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive shopping environment, Metropolitan Market emphasizes fresh, local, and sustainable food options, setting a standard for grocery shopping experiences in the Pacific Northwest. With a strong dedication to community engagement and employee satisfaction, the company fosters a workplace culture that values diversity, equity, and professional growth. This establishment thrives on its ability to combine traditional retail grocery services with a boutique approach, ensuring every customer feels valued and every product meets stringent quality standards.

The Front End Department at Metropolitan Market is vital in maintaining the store’s strong reputation by delivering prompt and courteous service at checkout. We are currently seeking a motivated and personable Checker to join our team at our Crown Hill location in Seattle. This role is full-time with a competitive wage range of $21.90 to $27.15 per hour, reflecting the company's recognition of the importance of experienced frontline team members. The Checker is responsible for engaging with guests by ensuring efficient checkout transactions, providing accurate information about products, and consistently promoting a positive guest experience. This fast-paced position demands an individual who can balance routine operational tasks such as cash handling and credit processing with immediate customer needs seamlessly.

Checkers play an essential role in customizing their service approach to meet each guest’s unique needs, building rapport through genuine enthusiasm and sincerity. Key responsibilities include handling various forms of payment accurately, including cash, checks, credit and debit cards, electronic benefits transfers, and gift certificates, while maintaining precise records and documentation. This role requires knowledge of product details, including correct produce identification and PLU codes, as well as the ability to perform POS functions such as price checks and the proper completion of "item not on file" documentation.

Beyond transactional duties, the Checker acts as the face of Metropolitan Market, moving effortlessly from greeting guests to offering product recommendations, upselling to enhance the shopping experience and closing sales with courteous thank-yous and invitations to return. Maintaining front-end cleanliness and orderliness is also a crucial part of the role, ensuring a pleasant and welcoming environment for all customers. Successful candidates will have demonstrated capability in prioritizing multiple tasks efficiently, working under deadlines, and showing initiative within a diverse team setting. Ultimately, this role is ideal for outgoing, friendly individuals passionate about delivering exceptional service and contributing positively to the Metropolitan Market community.
